Nominations Open for Jerome Bettis Leadership Award

Published

Strong relationships are important for everyone, but especially for young people. Student athletes have a unique opportunity to offer mentoring support to their peers to help them learn and grow -- on and off the field! The Pittsburgh Steelers, The Mentoring Partnership, Giant Eagle and the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette are teaming up to build its annual Jerome Bettis Leadership Team featuring 11 high school football players from around the region who go above and beyond in providing mentor-like support to their teammates. Winners will be recognized on the field at a Steelers home game and they'll receive a $1,000 donation to their school’s football program!

Know someone who might be a good fit? Click here to nominate one or more student athletes! One player will be chosen each week over the course of 11 weeks during the football season to receive the Jerome Bettis Leadership Award. Nominations only need to be submitted once to be considered over the course of the 11-week entry period.

Eligibility: Please note, to be considered for the Jerome Bettis Leadership Award, nominees must be in grade 9-12 and play for a school within the WPIAL or City League (Districts 7 and 8 in PIAA). Nominees must be nominated by their school’s football coach, athletic director or principal. Nominations not meeting these criteria are not eligible.
