Training for Programs


Introduction to TMP Services & Elements of Effective Practice Will Resume in September

The Elements of Effective Practices are currently being updated to reflect some new standards in mentoring. That said, TMP will take a break from hosting our Elements of Effective Practice in July and August. If you are interested in this training, please join our workshop scheduled for September or reach out to Sophia Duck at sduck@mentoringpittsburgh.org to inquire about another date that month.

Virtual Mentoring 101 Training: August Dates

Saturday, August 10, 9:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.

Wednesday, August 28, 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.

This interactive training program provides participants with an introduction to mentoring and what to expect as a mentor. Topics like the "mentoring lifecycle," communication skills, establishing boundaries, and appreciating diversity will make it easier for mentors to navigate relationships with their mentees. This training is appropriate to introduce new volunteers to the field of mentoring and to refresh current mentors on best practices. You must be registered to attend. Registration will close once the training is full or 2 days before the scheduled session. Click here to register!

TMP is excited to share that Abby Seeley has joined our team as the Director of Training and Program Development! Abby will oversee our programmatic work with mentoring programs, school administrators, community leaders, and volunteers to ensure that high-quality mentoring is available and provided to youth in Western PA. Mentor Chat Podcast Season 6 is Here

TMP is excited to announce the release of Mentor Chat Season 6! Join Ashley and Sophia this season as they dive deeper into the Becoming a Mentor Guide. Episodes are released every other week and you can check them out on our website or by searching "Mentor Chat" on all major podcast listening platforms.

Be sure to check out Episode 1 of Season 6, "Working with Others in the Mentoring Relationship System with Coy Thompson at Connecting Champions." In this episode, Coy discusses how Connecting Champions collaborates with mentors, guardians, doctors, social workers, and others to support young people with cancer in learning about their passion, exploring professions, and navigating the cancer journey. 2024 Violence Prevention Symposium

Monday, July 8 - Tuesday, July 9, 2024

The 2024 Violence Prevention Symposium is a two day event that will be held at the William Pitt Union on the campus of the University of Pittsburgh. This year's Symposium will allow attendees to dive deeper into topics they are interested in and develop violence intervention skills across the two-day format. Youth attendees will be required to attend both days of the event. There will be an evening boat ride on the Gateway Clipper on Monday, July 8th for attendees to socialize with one another and adult facilitators. Click here to register!

 

Save the Date: 2024 IMHOTEP Scholarship and Mentoring Golf Classic 

Monday, August 5, 7:00 a.m.

For the past 27 years, the 100 Black Men of Western Pennsylvania have sponsored the IMHOTEP Mentorship and Scholarship Golf Classic to fund their Mentoring and Student Scholarship programs. These programs help prepare disadvantaged African American youth in the Greater Pittsburgh area for post-secondary education and becoming productive citizens. Proceeds from the annual golf outing are the major source of funding, providing both mentorship and scholarships for graduating high school seniors and current college students.
