Training for Programs

Introduction to TMP Services & Elements of Effective Practice
Wednesday, February 21, 12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m.

This 1-hour informational session is intended to introduce mentoring programs to the technical assistance, training, and networking services provided by The Mentoring Partnership. The foundation of our services is based on the six Elements of Effective Practice, a collection of research-informed practices for youth mentoring programs, and you will learn those elements as part of this session. Attending this training is also the first step in the Quality Coaching process. Sessions are currently being done virtually. You must be registered to attend. Training for Mentors and Mentees

Virtual Mentoring 101 Training
Saturday, February 10, 9:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.
Wednesday, February 28, 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.

This interactive training program provides participants with an introduction to mentoring and what to expect as a mentor. Topics like the "mentoring lifecycle," communication skills, establishing boundaries, and appreciating diversity will make it easier for mentors to navigate relationships with their mentees. This training is appropriate to introduce new volunteers to the field of mentoring and to refresh current mentors on best practices. You must be registered to attend. Virtual Combatting White Saviorism
Tuesday, February 13, 12 p.m. - 1:30 p.m.

Mentoring relationships and programs have the power to reproduce racial inequity. Mentors and mentoring programs have a moral obligation to do no harm to the youth and families engaged in their mentoring relationships and programs. In this workshop, participants explore what white saviorism looks like as well as the harmful impact it has on youth. Participants will develop the ability to recognize white saviorism in mentoring relationships and programs and explore concrete strategies to combat its harmful effects. You must be registered to attend. Space is limited. At TMP, we believe in the power of relationships and mentoring connections! To support programs and organizations that serve youth and/or families, TMP offers no-cost  technical assistance through the National Mentoring Resource Center to provide resources and coaching on research-based best practices and strategies rooted in the nationally recognized Elements of Effective Practice for youth mentoring. In past years, TMP has offered hundreds of hours of technical assistance to programs and organizations like yours, covering topics and issues related to mentor/mentee training, recruitment, program evaluation, and many others. We're Hiring: Education Coordinator 

The Education Coordinator will lead efforts to increase the number of schools implementing the Relationship Centered Schools framework. Successful candidates for this position will cultivate meaningful relationships with school administrators, mentoring programs and others to ensure that high-quality connections are built and maintained between young people and caring adults in schools throughout Western PA. Black History Month 

February is Black History Month, a celebration of the lives and historic contributions of Black Americans. While we champion the great impact on American history and successes had by Black adults, we must remember to celebrate our Black youth. Remember that we, as caring adults, have the opportunity to co-create solutions and spaces that best serve Black youth and recognize the impression they will leave on our country generation after generation. National Mentoring Month 2024 -- Let's Keep the Celebration Going!

Thanks to everyone who helped us celebrate National Mentoring Month!  What a busy month it was, capped off by an Open Skate at Hunt Armory.  Thanks to the Pittsburgh Penguins, we were able to host mentoring programs, mentors and mentees for some fun on the ice.  Click here to view KDKA's coverage of our fun day and check out the event photos, too.
