Teaching Children About Recycling

This month is Plastic Free July! While some kids may have heard the phrase, “reduce, reuse, recycle,” it’s important to make sure they understand what those three R words mean.

Talk to the young people in your life about the 3Rs and the impact plastic waste has on the environment. National Geographic Kids has several free downloadable toolkits that provide plastic-free tips for children and adults to practice. As a caring adult, make sure to educate yourself so you can be a source of information when questions arise about the environment and how recycling helps. For a fun hands-on activity, try out some of these plastic bottle craft ideas!

To learn more about plastic-free initiatives, visit 1% for the Planet and the Environmental Protection Agency. These are great resources to share with older children interested in helping the environment!
