Encouraging School Attendance

Let's Do This

While some absences are inevitable, it’s important to encourage children to attend school every day. September is Attendance Awareness Month and educators, parents, mentors and other caring adults are encouraged to raise awareness of the importance of being in school!

Regular attendance helps children establish a routine, build strong relationships with teachers and peers and improve academic performance. National Today suggests that missing two to four days in the first month of school will make students more likely to have poor attendance later. Talk with your young people about the importance of being in school each day and make a plan for unavoidable absences and making up class work or homework.
