Celebrate Black Innovation
Let's Do This
Black history is filled with groundbreaking inventors, scientists, and entrepreneurs who have shaped the world in remarkable ways. From Garrett Morgan’s traffic light to Dr. Shirley Ann Jackson’s telecommunications research, Black innovators have made everyday life better for everyone. As a caring adult, you can spark curiosity by helping a young person explore these contributions, ask questions, and even dream up their own big ideas.
- Read and Reflect: Choose a book by a Black author and read it together. Discuss the themes, challenges, and triumphs within the story.
- Listen and Learn: Explore podcasts or interviews featuring Black voices. Watch documentaries or television shows depicting the true stories of Black Men and Women.
- Create and Share: Encourage the young person to express what they learn through art, music, writing, or discussion. They could write a poem about an inspiring historical figure, create a collage of Black leaders, or share what they've learned with friends and family.
Stay Inspired
Black history is more than a month—it’s an ongoing story of resilience, creativity, and leadership. Keep the conversation going all year by highlighting Black excellence in everyday life. Encourage young people to seek out diverse voices, ask questions, and celebrate the richness of Black history as part of their own journey of learning and growth.
