Introduction to TMP Services & Elements of Effective Practice

Wednesday, May 15, 12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m.

This 1-hour informational session is intended to introduce mentoring programs to the technical assistance, training, and networking services provided by The Mentoring Partnership. The foundation of our services is based on the six Elements of Effective Practice, a collection of research-informed practices for youth mentoring programs, and you will learn those elements as part of this session. Attending this training is also the first step in the Quality Coaching process. Sessions are currently being done virtually. You must be registered to attend. Training for Mentors and Mentees

Virtual Mentoring 101 Training

Saturday, May 11, 9:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.

Wednesday, May 22, 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.

This interactive training program provides participants with an introduction to mentoring and what to expect as a mentor. Topics like the "mentoring lifecycle," communication skills, establishing boundaries, and appreciating diversity will make it easier for mentors to navigate relationships with their mentees. This training is appropriate to introduce new volunteers to the field of mentoring and to refresh current mentors on best practices. You must be registered to attend. May 2024 LENS: SOGIE Refresher: Language Matters

Friday May 10, 9:30 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.

Join us for this in-person LENS Meeting on SOGIE – sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression. Coley Alston of Hugh Lane Wellness will lead us through a refresher of SOGIE to help mentors, partners and other caring adults better support young people through the use of inclusive language. Our conversation will cover:

  • Current health disparities
  • Basic terminology 
  • Asking about SOGIE
  • Vetting resources and referrals

May is Mental Health Month  

TMP is committed to raising awareness of mental health throughout the entire month of May. Throughout the month, TMP will be sharing insightful Everyday Mentoring Tips related to mental health and engaging content on our social media pages. Additionally, we're excited to host Program Spotlights with organizations such as UpStreet Pittsburgh and Houze of Waxx, showcasing their efforts in mental health advocacy. Remake Learning Days! 

Remake Learning Days (RLD), held from May 2-22, are vibrant learning festivals that celebrate the multitude of learning opportunities within a community! These festivities spotlight innovative experiences and avenues for youth to nurture their creativity, resilience, and curiosity. A variety of organizations—ranging from schools, museums, and libraries to after-school programs, early childcare centers, universities, media centers, and tech startups— open their doors to host events where families can learn together. These events are crafted to be hands-on, pertinent, and captivating educational experiences for youth and their families and caregivers.
